Interface terms
/ Activity: Action to be carried out, dated and assigned to a user, attached to a document.
/ Agent: Assistant configured for a specific use, with its own instruction, its data scope and the tools it is allowed to use.
/ AI Field: Field whose value is computed by the intelligent assistant from an instruction and the context of the record, then written automatically onto the records concerned.
/ App: Main module adding a complete functional area: Sales, CRM, Inventory, Accounting.
/ Breadcrumb: Path shown at the top of the screen, retracing the navigation and allowing you to go back without losing the context.
/ Chatter: Area at the bottom of a document, gathering the messages, the internal notes, the activities and the history of tracked changes.
/ Command palette: Universal search bar opened with Ctrl + K, giving access to
the applications and menus, to the conversations (people and channels), to the knowledge
articles and to the assistant.
/ Favorite: Saved search (filters, groupings, sorting) reusable and shareable.
/ Filter: Condition restricting the records displayed.
/ Kanban: View presenting the records as cards spread across columns, movable by drag and drop.
/ Partner: Generic term for a third party: customer, vendor, prospect, subcontractor.
/ Pivot table: Two-way analysis view, crossing two criteria and displaying one or more measures.
/ Portal: Simplified interface giving an external third party access to their own documents only, without consuming a user licence.
/ Property field: Field added to a record without modifying the data model, defined at the level of a parent record and available on its children.
/ Smart button: Button at the top right of a form, giving access to the linked documents and showing a counter.
/ View: Way of representing data: list, form, kanban, calendar, graph, pivot, Gantt, cohort, activity.
Business terms
/ Aged balance: Statement presenting receivables or payables classified by age.
/ Backorder: Transfer carrying the quantities left to deliver or to receive after a partial operation. On validation, Odoo asks whether to create it; the operation type can be set to create it systematically, or never.
/ Bill of materials: List of the components and operations needed to manufacture a product.
/ Credit note: Document cancelling all or part of an invoice already issued.
/ Fiscal position: Set of rules adapting the taxes and accounts to a third party's tax regime.
/ Lead: Incoming contact not yet qualified, liable to become an opportunity.
/ Lot: Group of units of a product sharing the same origin, tracked for traceability.
/ Matching: Reconciliation of journal items that offset each other, allowing a partner account to be cleared.
/ Milestone: Approval step in a project, associated with a target date and sometimes with an invoicing instalment.
/ Opportunity: Identified business deal, tracked in the pipeline until it is concluded.
/ Pipeline: Representation of the deals in progress, spread by stage of advancement.
/ Pricelist: Set of rules determining the price applied according to the customer, the quantity, the period or the product.
/ Quotation: Priced commercial proposal, which becomes an order once confirmed.
/ Route: Supply path of a product: buy, manufacture, replenish on order, resupply a subcontractor.
/ Subcontracting: Entrusting a third party with the transformation of supplied components, the resulting product being received as a purchase.
/ Work in progress: Value of the components consumed and the time spent on a manufacturing order not yet completed, recognised in the accounts by a work-in-progress entry.
Configuration terms
/ API: Interface allowing an external system to read and write in the database.
/ Automation rule: Process triggered by an event occurring on a document, subject to conditions.
/ Developer mode: Mode giving access to the technical settings: fields, views, access rules, automations.
/ Module: Extension adding features. An app is a main module.
/ PostgreSQL: Database management system on which Odoo relies. The name will be useful to you when talking to your host, notably about the prerequisites of intelligent assistance.
/ Scheduled action: Process executed at regular intervals, independently of any user action.
/ Server action: Configured process performing an operation on one or more records.
/ Studio: Code-free customisation tool (fields, views, reports, automations) available in the Enterprise edition.
/ Webhook: Dedicated address allowing an external system to trigger a process in Odoo.
