Keyboard shortcuts

The principle

Odoo assigns shortcuts to the buttons of the interface. They are activated by combining a modifier key with a letter:

  • on Windows and Linux, the Alt key;
  • on macOS, the Ctrl key.

Holding that key down displays, overlaid on each button, the letter associated with it in the current context. That is the surest way to know which shortcuts are actually available on the screen shown.

Note

The shortcuts depend on the buttons present on screen. The same letter does not have the same effect in a list view, in a form or in a dialog box: it activates the button carrying it at that moment.

General shortcuts

Handling records

Alt + J Ctrl + J Discard the changes in progress

Alt + P Ctrl + P Previous record
Alt + U Ctrl + U Open the Actions menu

Point d'attention

Alt + J discards unsaved changes without any confirmation prompt. The shortcut only has an effect on a form carrying pending changes; on an untouched form, it does nothing. Check the state of the document before using it.

Search and navigation

Alt + Shift + Q Ctrl + Shift + Q Open the search menu: filters, groupings, favorites
Alt + V Ctrl + V Confirm the selection in a dialog box
Alt + Shift + U Ctrl + Shift + U Open the company switcher

In the command palette

Once the palette is opened with Ctrl + K:

/ Search among the applications and the menu entries
@ Search for a conversation: person, channel, room , or start one
? Search for a knowledge article. Requires the Knowledge application
Enter Open the selected result
Ctrl + Enter Open the result in a new tab. Cmd + Enter on Mac, and only on a menu result

In the text editor

Input Effect
/ Open the insertion menu at the cursor position: blocks, fields, media
Ctrl + K Open the command palette. To place a link on the selection, choose the link creation entry there
@ Mention a user in a message or a note

Note

Shortcuts may differ depending on the browser, which reserves certain combinations for its own functions, and on the modules installed, which add their buttons. The overlay obtained by holding the modifier key down is always authoritative.
